Billing itself as an IPOD conversion tool, Isquint is a brilliant free video-convserion tool for the Mac platform, including the ability to rip straight from DVD .VOB files. It converts a wide variety of formats (including WMV) into QuickTime / ITunes / IPOD – compatible formats. (Support for iSquint has been discontinued: but still a great application!)

Another excellent video-conversion tool is MPEG STREAMCLIP: which is still supported. Want to join or split multiple movie files? No problem: the “batch process” feature makes this a cinch. MPEG Streamclip converts effortlessly between different video formats (.mov, .mp4, .avi, .dv & .mpeg) , compresses, trims, re-scales, and performs other common editing tasks with no fuss.
